Program FoxView

The program FoxView was written with goal facilitate to show, to edit, to change the structure and to create a DBF table with format supported by recent version of Microsoft Visual FoxPro. It is based on the complete runtime module MS Visual FoxPro 9. The program can manipulate with table formats of both FoxPro and dBase (up to level IV). It is not compatible with dBase level 7 tables, which are supported by Borland Database Engine (BDE) as main database library used by prevailing software produced by IDS.
One of Microsoft Windows of versions 98, ME, 2000 and XP (or higher) as the operation system is necessary to install FoxView.

The runtime module Visual FoxPro 9 is installed during this process with a basic version of the exe-file oneself and commands.pdf file containing brief syntax description of supported commands.

Full description of the Visual FoxPro commands is available via MSDN.

The program FoxView can be running from Windows Start menu or as a DBF-associated program from Windows Explorer (this DBF table will be opened automatically in this case).
Any DBF table can be opened after user press Use button on the main program form and select this DBF file in the responsible dialog.
Content of a whole (opened) table is possible to show by force of button Browse.
The command line would be used to write any supported FoxPro command. It will be executed by pressing the button Execute or the key Enter on keyboard. All executed commands are stored into memory and can be re-called into the command line by keys Page-Up and Page-Down. After occasional editing, this command can be re-executed.

Alphabetical list of supported commands

Note 1 for BDE user: Format of DBF tables created by force BDE is possible to define via BDE setting - set dBase level 4.
Note 2 for BDE user: Index files for tables created by force BDE are reconstructed to .CDX type during these tables are opened in FoxView. It can result in troubles by table reopening by software using BDE (e.g. by editing an indexed field or by adding new records). You can eliminate these problems in this technique: firstly remove old indices and re-create indices using BDE.
